Ellen "Louise" Gaul

Ellen “Louise” Gaul, 86, of Monmouth, IL, died at 8:15 p.m., Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at the Monmouth Nursing Home, Monmouth, IL.

She was born February 16, 1931 in Stahl, MO, the daughter of Basil V. and Rowena Catherine (Wheeler) Hughes. Louise was raised and educated in Stahl, Greencastle, and Novinger, MO, and graduated from Novinger High School in 1949.

Louise married Carroll Swisher in 1948 in Kansas City, MO. She later married Elmer Gaul on April 2, 1982.

Louise was in charge of purchasing and sales for Brown-Lynch-Scott in Monmouth and Bergner’s in Aurora, IL. Later she worked at Wells Pet Food in Monmouth as Director of Customer Service before becoming an outside sales representative, traveling throughout the United States, retiring in 1985. Louise cherished time with her family and friends. She loved playing cards, dominoes, bingo, and shopping. She was a member of Fairview Center United Methodist Church, the Red Hatter’s Club and the Civic Club.

She is survived by her daughter, Deb (Ron) Manuel of Monmouth, Il; one grandson, Chad Manuel of Los Angeles, CA; two sister-in-law’s Mary Anesi of Kirksville, MO and Velda Hughes of Bellevue, NE, five nephews; Roger Hughes, Dennis Hughes, Rick Sayre, Larry Sayre, and David Hughes, three nieces; Faun Weeks, Shelley Finch and Shawnee Kellison. Also surviving are her stepchildren; Donna (Dave) Foltz, Debbie (Dave) Angel, Dale Gaul, Darrell Gaul; step grandchildren, Mike Angel, Cassie Craft, Dalton Gaul and Derrick King; several great nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Richard “Dick” Hughes, brother and sister in-law Garold (Bea) Hughes, and sister and brother-in-law, Janie (Lester) Sayre.

Funeral Services will be at 3:00 p.m., Friday, October 6, 2017 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services. A private family interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth at a later date. Memorials can be made to Monmouth Nursing Home or Harbor Light Hospice.
