Elizabeth Anne Quinn

November 22, 1942 — October 17, 2024

Macomb

Elizabeth Anne (Liggin) Quinn, 81, of Macomb, IL, passed away October 17, 2024, in Chicago, IL, surrounded by loving family members. Her family would like to express its gratitude to the exceptional physician and nursing teams at Carle Methodist in Peoria, IL and Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, where Elizabeth was provided with outstanding care and a dignified environment during her final hospital stays.

Elizabeth was born November 22, 1942, in Atlanta, GA to her parents Betsy and Maxwell Liggin. She was raised in the Buckhead neighborhood of Atlanta with her brother, Bill. Elizabeth loved the idea of travel, and upon graduating from high school, took a job as a flight attendant. She fell in love with her career and traveled to more than 20 countries before meeting the love of her life, Richard “David” Quinn, who shared her passion for travel and adventure.

Elizabeth and David married on August 31,1968, and eventually settled permanently in Macomb, IL, where they raised their two daughters, Kelley and Hilary, and formed a strong connection to the community and to Western Illinois University. They co-founded a study abroad program that is the longest continuously run program of its type at the university. They accompanied their teenaged daughters to Salamanca, Spain for a semester-long program, where they fell deeply in love with the city for life.

Elizabeth worked as a program assistant in several Macomb public schools, retiring from Edison Junior High School with 30 years of service given to the local school community. She was known for helping students navigate through challenging circumstances, and had many people in her life that considered her their “second Mother.”

In retirement, Elizabeth continued her love for travel and international flavor and ended up visiting 28 countries in her life. She was overjoyed with the gift of four grandchildren, with whom she was very close. She truly cherished every opportunity to spend time with them.

Elizabeth is survived by her daughters, Kelley Quinn (Vajo Necak) of Macomb and Hilary Quinn (Jim Ransel) of Riverside, IL, her grandchildren Aiden Quinn Necak, Mirabel Quinn Necak, Lily Ransel, and Andrew Ransel, her sisters-in-law Mary Ann Quinn, Madelyn Quinn, and Rita Hill, and her brother-in-law, Paul Quinn.

She is preceded in death by her husband David, her parents Betsy and Maxwell Liggin, and her brother, William Liggin.

Elizabeth believed that every person could make a difference in other people’s lives, and she believed in making real and lasting connections with the people she loved in life…
