Edward A. Skinner

Edward A. Skinner, 87, of Monmouth died at 6:30 a.m. Friday, April 24, 2015 at the Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, IL. Eddie, known by many names, was born to Edward P. Skinner and Ada G. Chambers on September 29, 1927 in Monmouth, IL. He was raised and educated in Monmouth, graduating from Monmouth High School in 1947. He later attended Browns Business College in Galesburg before joining the United States Air Force. Ed married Melba J. Brown in Monmouth on November 9, 1950 and she survives. He worked at John Deer Foundry (Parts Distribution, Milan, IL) for 28 ½ years until retiring in 1990. He was a member of many organizations within the community such as Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Veteran of the U.S. Air Force, where he earned the rank of Staff Sergeant; Knights of Columbus, where he served as Grand Knight; The American Legion, Sam Skinner Post, Thunder-Steppers, and The Jokers Club. Aside from all of his community volunteering, Eddie loved having his own fun too such as: kidding his loved ones, joking with his card buddies, fishing, Busters Bombers, Horseshoes, calling for BINGO “Golden Voice”, and was the number 1 “CHAIR FAN” for the 49ers from all the way in Illinois. He was also respected and loved by all! He is survived by his loving wife Melba, his daughters, Mary, Celeste, Celinda (Vincent), and Emily (Timothy), and his sons, Gregory and Brian. Eddie has 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandchild. Eddie was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Charles, Owen and Wallace. Mass of the Christian Burial followed by Military honors will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Church, Monmouth. Cremation will take place following the services. Friends may call Friday, May 1, 2015, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home, Monmouth, with a Rosary service beginning at 4:45 p.m. A Eulogy Service will take place following the visitation. Memorial contributions are welcome at The American Cancer Society, St. Jude’s Research, and Immaculate Conception School (I.C.S).
