Edward L. Chewning, 78, of Kirkwood, IL, passed away at 10:24 a.m., Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, IL.
He was born on April 11, 1940 in Monmouth, IL, the son of Everett William and Ruth (Asbury) Chewning. Edward was raised and educated in Galesburg and Monmouth.
Edward served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. After returning home, he worked as a supervisor at DeKalb Feeds until 1984. He was then a 911 coordinator for the Monmouth Police Department until he retired in 2015.
He was of Pentecostal faith, a member of the Monmouth Kiwanis Club and really enjoyed working with computers. He also enjoyed playing music—especially on the guitar and was a Corvette enthusiast.
Edward is survived by his son, Michael Chewning of Monmouth; wife, Tanya Chewning of Kirkwood, IL; his brother, Gary Chewning of Gerlaw, IL; his sister Gloria Witt of Texas. Grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother Frank Chewning.
Cremation has been accorded, No services have been planned at this time.
