Edward A. Appleby, 91, of Galesburg, formerly of Monmouth, passed away at 11:02 a.m., Sunday, August 9, 2015, at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born November 15, 1923 in Monmouth, IL the son of Edward Burton and Verla (Spargur) Appleby. He was raised and educated in Monmouth and Kirkwood. Ed served with the Army Air Corps during World War II from 1943-1945.
Ed married Lois Marie Peterson at the Fairview Center United Methodist Church on August 7, 1943 and she survives.
Ed retired from Mayrath Industries as President after 34 years of employment in 1987.
He was a member of the Fairview Center United Methodist Church. He enjoyed playing golf and travelling. Ed also enjoyed going to his grandkids and great grandkids activities.
Survivors include his wife; 2 daughters, Jo Anna (Sam) Cline of Avon Park, FL. and Susan (Mike) Briggs of Monmouth, IL; 2 grandsons, Mike (Marianne) Briggs of Burlington, IA., and Randy (Tracie) Briggs of Monmouth; 3 great grandchildren, Matthew Briggs and Lauren Briggs of Burlington, IA., and Emmie Briggs of Monmouth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; uncle, Clarence Appleby; aunt, Frances Benson and cousin, Patricia Appleby.
Cremation rites have been accorded, no service or visitation is planned at this time. A graveside committal service will be in Center Grove Cemetery, Kirkwood, at a later date. Memorials can be made to the Fairview Center United Methodist Church. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth is in charge of the arrangements.
