Dorothy A Spence

Dorothy A. Spence,81, of Monmouth, passed away at 12:12 am Saturday, December 10, 2016 at the Monmouth Nursing Home.

Dorothy was born on December 17, 1934 in Monmouth, IL, and is the daughter of William R. and Lucy M. Fair Thieme. She was raised and educated in Little York, IL.

Dorothy married John R. “Jack” Spence at the Fall Creek Church on March 1, 1952. He preceded her in death on January 10, 2015.

She was a farm wife and homemaker. Dorothy enjoyed playing the piano, organ, and keyboard. She won 2nd place at the Illinois State Fair in the Olde Tyme Piano Contest. She loved to go around to area nursing homes and play for the residents. Dorothy enjoyed camping, and most of all, spending time with her family.

Dorothy is survived by 5 children, Gary (Jane) Spence of Monmouth, Rusty (Rhonda) Spence of Monmouth, Cindy Hennenfent of Kirkwood, Danny (Vicki) Spence of Monmouth and Bill (Paula) Spence of Monmouth; 10 grandchildren, Tracy (Andy) Engstrom of Abingdon, IL, Bryan (Jackie) Spence of Monmouth, Ashley (Eric) Hobbs of Geneva, IL., Lucinda (John) Ricco of Roseville, Katie (Johnny) Feehan of Kirkwood, Holly (Thad) Tharp of Monmouth, Jackie Spence of Monmouth, Brad (Abby McGuire) Spence of Monmouth, Heath (Jessica) Spence of Las Vegas, NV and Travis Spence of Monmouth; her great grandchildren; sister Marjorie Smith of Little York, brother Charles (Delores) Thieme of Fyre Lake, IL, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park. Her family will be present to receive friends from 9:30-11:00 a.m., prior to the service. Memorials can be made to Little Cedar Church or Monmouth Nursing Home.
