Doris L. Worden

Doris L. Worden, 83, of Monmouth, formerly of Galesburg, died at 11:11 P.M. Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, following a brief illness.

She was born on January 18, 1931 in Rural Knox County, IL; she is the daughter of Kenneth and Mary Lula (McCullum) Smith. She was raised and educated in Abingdon and graduated from Abingdon High School in 1949.

Doris married Crescent E. Worden Jr. in Abingdon on June 9, 1951. He preceded her in death in 2012.

She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, where she was active in the Altar and Rosary Society. Doris enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cooking, gardening, traveling, and watching sports. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Doris is survived by her daughter Therese (Jeff) Rankin of Monmouth, son Jerry (Libby) Worden of Normal, IL, grandchildren; Tony (Robin) Cox of Cedar Rapids, IA, Amanda (Tony) Cox of Peoria, IL, Patrick (Cara) McGuire of Normal, Justin (Sara) Worden of Normal, and Katie Worden of Normal. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, and great-granddaughter.

Cremation rites will be accorded. A Celebration of Life will be from 11:00a.m.-1:30p.m. Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Alfano's Pizzeria in Monmouth. Memorials can be made to Monmouth Nursing Home. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory in Monmouth is in charge of the arrangements.
