Doris M. Carlson, 91, of Monmouth formerly of the Rozetta area died at 8:45 A.M. Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Courtyard Estates, Monmouth.

Doris was born on September 17, 1922 in rural Alexis, IL. She is the daughter of Ralph and Ora (Welty) Shaw. Doris attended Monmouth High School; she later graduated from Biggsville High School in 1939. She then attended Brown's Business College in Galesburg, IL.

She married Kenneth Wayne Carlson on January 19, 1946 in Monmouth. He preceded her in death on October 14, 1976.

Doris worked at the Rock Island Arsenal in the security department while she was waiting for Kenneth to return home from service. She was a homemaker, and loved being a farm wife. She enjoyed canning, baking, especially brown sugar angel food cake. She was an avid gardener, seamstress, and enjoyed tatting. Doris adored her family and her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was a member of the Rozetta Baptist Church where she served as the church bookkeeper and Sunday school teacher for several years. She was also a member of the Rozetta Home Extension, 4-H leader for the Rozetta Lucky 4's for over 40 years, food judge at the Warren, Mercer, and Knox County Fairs, and a Cub Scout Den mother.

Doris is survived by her three sons; Keith (Marla) Carlson of Waterloo, IA., Andrew (Nancy) Carlson of Monmouth, and Joe (Becky) Carlson of Monmouth. Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, great grandson Jackson Hinton, and two brothers; Paul Shaw and Donald Shaw.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Rozetta Baptist Church. Interment will be in Rozetta Cemetery. Her family will be present to receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2014 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory in Monmouth. Memorials may be given to Rozetta Baptist Church, St. Jude's Research Hospital or Courtyard Estates.
