Donald R. Owens

Donald R. Owens, 80, of Monmouth, passed away at 8:15 p.m., Monday, September 19, 2016 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg, IL.

He was born on July 3, 1936 in Clinton, IL, the son of Edward and Grace (Crawford) Owens he was raised and educated in Clinton and graduated from Clinton High School in 1954. He earned his Associates Degree in Fire Science from Carl Sandburg College. He also served in the United States Army from 1961-1965.

Don married Barbara Perrin on June 14, 1964 at the Methodist Church in Monmouth, IL, she survives.

Don worked as a Fireman at Monmouth Fire Department from 1969 until 1990 when he retired as Assistant Chief. He and Barb moved to Greeley, CO for three years. Don was a member of the Heritage United Presbyterian Church, he owned Owen's Collection Agency, and was co-owner of D&T Gun Shop both of Monmouth. His hobbies included hunting and fishing.

Surviving Don are his wife; Barbara Owens of Monmouth, IL, his three daughters; Susan (Jeff) Flynn of Monmouth, IL, Teresa (Randy) Smith of Normal, IL, and Michele Greer of Vancouver, WA, his grandchildren; Marissa Flynn of Monmouth, IL, Jordan (Jasmine) Flynn of Viola, IL, Paul Ray of Vancouver, WA, Renee Ray of Vancouver, WA, Eric (Christian) Smith of Weldon, IL, Tracy Smith, and Matthew Smith of Normal, IL, also surviving are 10 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, and two sisters; Dixie Rockhold of Clinton, IL, and Vicki Akinsanya of Chicago, IL.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, his brother; Terry Owens, his sister; Sharon Ballard, and two infant children; Kevin Owens and Donald Owens Jr.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 26, 2016 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Cremation rites have been accorded. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Monmouth Fire Department or Heritage United Presbyterian Church.
