Donald E. Lee

Donald E. Lee, 86, of Monmouth, passed away at 12:45 p.m., Friday, May 13, 2016 at his home.

He was born on July 11, 1929 in Monmouth, the son of Maurice and Edna (Doyle) Lee. Don was raised and educated in Monmouth and Little York and graduated from Little York High School in 1947. He served in the United States Army in the Signal Corp. during the Korean War.

Don married Donna Hennenfent on June 14, 1955 in Peoria, IL, she survives.

Don first worked as a farm hand for many local farmers. He then went to work as a painter at Admiral's in Galesburg for 39 years. After his retirement in 1992, he worked on Purlee Farms. He was a member of the Monmouth American Legion Post 136, and Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth. Don enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and traveling.

Don is survived by his wife, Donna Lee of Monmouth, his children; Gary (Sherry) Lee of Monmouth, Cindy (Barry) Pheiffer of Wyoming, IL, and Steven (Kathy) Lee of Monmouth. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; Gary (Jessie) Lee, Jr., Bill (Donna) Lee, Christopher Lee, Melissa (Scott) Wiegand, Justin Lee, Jaran (Kaley) Pheiffer, Jamie Pheiffer, nine great grandchildren, and siblings; Barbara (Mike) Rascon of Maryland, Edna Johnson of Monmouth, Lawrence (Doris) Lee of Monmouth, Martha (Merlyn) Hart of Monmouth, Linda Libby of Galesburg, IL, Ed (Cathy) Lee of Little York, IL and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Charles Lee, Robert Lee, and one sister, Connie Ledbetter.

Graveside Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth. No visitation hours are planned. Memorials can be made to OSF Hospice or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
