David Dean Wolbers, 48, of Monmouth, IL passed away suddenly at 3:50 pm Saturday, May 9, 2020 at OSF Holy Family Medical Center, Monmouth.
He was born December 4, 1971 in Burlington, IA the son of Dean C. and Carol L. (Reiter) Wolbers. He was raised and educated in Monmouth graduating from Monmouth High School in 1990. He later graduated from Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL with a Bachelor’s Degree in Law Enforcement.
Dave served with the Illinois Army National Guard for 8 years.
Dave was a retired Police Officer with the City of Knoxville after serving for 15 years. He also served as the Avon Police Chief. Dave was a volunteer fireman for over 18 years. He currently was a Telecommunications Officer (911 Dispatcher) for the City of Monmouth and Warren County Sheriff’s office. He also served as the local D.A.R.E. Officer for many years.
Dave enjoyed hunting and collecting Elvis and Law Enforcement/Firefighter memorabilia. He loved traveling with his family, especially to Hawaii.
Survivors include his mother, Carol L. Wolbers of Monmouth, IL; one brother Darren Wolbers of Ames, IA and one sister, Tamara Wolbers of Long Island, NY; several aunts, uncles and cousins; special friends, Todd, Becki, Lucas, Hannah, and Sarah Clayton and Cris Ross, Jacob Taylor, Lauren Taylor, Wayne & Megan Grant. Along with his many brothers & sisters in uniform.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Due to current Covid-19 social distancing requirements and recommendations a drive thru visitation will be take place from 3:00-7:00 pm Thursday, May 14, 2020 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL. We ask that visitors stay within their vehicles. A private family funeral service will take place at the funeral home. Interment with honors will take place at Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth. Memorials may be given to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Make a Wish Foundation, Hawaii Chapter and sent to the Funeral Home.
