David “Gomez” W. Talley, 58, of Monmouth, IL died at 5:08 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at OSF Holy Family Medical Center, Monmouth, IL.
He was born Dec. 3, 1959, in Monmouth to Jerry and Carol (Gregory) Talley.
David attended Harding Elementary School, Central Junior High School and Monmouth High School, where he was a record-setting pitcher on the Zippers baseball team before graduating in 1978. He then entered the military, serving in the U.S. Air Force.
He held several occupations, most notably working as a cabinetmaker and at Monmouth Super Wash.
A fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Gomez loved to socialize and was known to many in the Monmouth area.
David is survived by his wife on nearly 30 years , Kitty Wixom-Talley; five siblings: Debra DeJaynes of Kewanee, Ill., Mike (Evie) Talley of Mesa, Ariz., Pam (Mike) DeMay of Alexis, Ill., Vicki (Barry) McNamara of Monmouth and Sandy (Joe) Montgomery of Chandler, Ariz. He is also survived by several aunts and uncles and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, including many in the Monmouth area.
Among those preceding him in death were his parents and his son, Zackery Talley.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 31, at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Cremation rites have been accorded. No visiting hours are planned. Memorials may be given to the David W. Talley Memorial Fund.
