David L. Poole II, 89, of Monmouth, IL died at 3:07 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at the Roseville Rehabilitation Center, Roseville. He was born August 25, 1925 in Carlinville, IL, and is the son of David Leon, Sr. and Molly (Schlicting) Poole. David was raised and educated in Carlinville. Macoupin County States Attorney Michael F. Seyrit and his wife Helen, neighbors of the Poole's, Took young David into their home and helped take care of him. He left high school to join the United States Marine Corps at age 17. David served during WWII with the 28th Marines 3rd Division. He fought and was injured at Iwo Jima, returning home in 1945. David married Lillian Mae Parrish on October 26, 1946 at the Fairview Center United Methodist Church and she passed away January 8, 2015. David farmed his whole life in Lenox Township starting in 1946. He also had milk cows for several years. David started painting with his father in Carlinville; he later owned and operated Poole's Painting and Decorating with his son Dana. He was a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church, and the American Legion Post 136, Monmouth. David belonged to several bands including Dick Higbee's Starlight Band, Rutabaga Jammers, and the Midwest Sounds, as a self-taught trumpet and saxophone player. He arranged many of the band's music. David loved his Taylor's Chili. He is survived by his daughters; DeAnn Cialdella of Tinley Park, IL, Nancy (Phil) Kuhnkey of Spokane, WA, sons; David L. Poole III of Garland, TX, and Dana (Janice) Poole of Monmouth, IL; grandchildren, Brian, Nick, and Allison Cialdella, Brandon, and Teresa Kuhnkey, Madeline, Emma, Nicole, and Melissa Poole; great grandchildren Maisen Brancato, and Jordan and Colton Kuhnkey. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers; Dick and Joe Poole, and four sisters; Dorothy Rinderer, Bette Hotuiz, Mary Poole and Bessie Poole. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 10, 2015 at the Fairview Center United Methodist Church in Monmouth. Interment will be in Lenox Union Cemetery in Lenox Township. His family will be present to receive friends prior to the service at the church from Noon-2:00 p.m. Memorials can be made to the Fairview Center United Methodist Church.
