David A. Gawthrop

David A. Gawthrop, age 58, of Monmouth, passed away at 11:50 a.m., Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Ill., surrounded by his family.

David was born on October 9, 1954 in Monmouth, and was the son of Gary L. and Barbara J. Pullen Gawthrop. He was raised and educated in Monmouth, and graduated from Monmouth High School in 1973. He attended Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg and then he attended the University of Illinois Fire Service Institute in Springfield, Ill.

David married Kim Damewood on March 12, 1977 in Monmouth. He later married Kathy Roller on March 25, 1988 in Monmouth.

David first worked for David Hallam, as an apprentice electrician. He then served Monmouth College for over twenty years as an electrician. David also worked for the City of Monmouth as a firefighter for several years and as an auxiliary sheriff's deputy in Henderson County.

David enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and his beloved dog "Missi". Most of all, David enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

David is survived by life partner Kathy Gawthrop of Monmouth, one daughter Tracie (Randy) Briggs of Monmouth, one son Casey (Jill) Gawthrop of Indianapolis, In., his mother Barbara J. Gawthrop of Galesburg, Ill., one sister Carrie (John) Kauck of Grayslake, Ill., one granddaughter Emmie Briggs of Monmouth, three nieces; Claudia Kauck, Samantha Kauck, and Claire McCrery. Also surviving is his brother-in-law Doug McCrery of Monmouth. David also was an important figure in the lives of Kathy's children Steve Richardson Jr. and Lori Richardson; as well as Kathy's granddaughter Paige Richardson.

David was preceded in death by his father, and one sister Annette McCrery.

A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 1, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Monmouth. Friends may call an hour prior to the service at the church where his family will be present to receive friends. Cremation will be accorded. A memorial fund has been established for the American Red Cross. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory in Monmouth is in charge of the arrangements.
