Dale Shamblin

Dale Shamblin, 78, of Gerlaw, IL, died at 8:55 pm, Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, IL.

He was born on July 5, 1938 in Ponemah, IL, the son of Clinton Charles and Marguerite Elnora (Smith) Shamblin. Dale was raised and educated in Kirkwood, IL.

Dale married Bev Talley in 1958. He later married Delores Pitman in 1966; she preceded him in death on February 13, 2005.

Dale owned and operated D & D Service Station in Kirkwood for a time. He also worked as an auto body technician at Ray Green Motors and Bruce Foote Chevrolet in Monmouth, later retiring from Sharkey Transportation as a service manager. He also worked as a handyman and farmer. Dale enjoyed fishing, CB’s, and working in his yard. He loved to listen to music and sing karaoke. He was a member of the Kirkwood Volunteer Fire Department.

Dale is survived by three daughters; Tina (Randy) Johnson of Gerlaw, IL, Deana Gipson of Monmouth, Kathy Jo Shamblin of Monmouth, two step daughters; Shari (Tom) Brinton of Iowa City, IA, Beany (Dave) Higgins of Joy, IL, thirteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, two brothers; Charles Shamblin and Len Shamblin both of Galesburg, IL, one sister; June (Noel) Grabowski of Galesburg, and several nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Kim Edwards for all her help and care during this difficult time.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one daughter, one granddaughter, three sisters, and four brothers.

A Celebration of Life will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials can be made to the Western Illinois Animal Rescue (WIAR).
