Clyde S. Farwell, 84, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 2:40 a.m., Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at OSF St. Mary’s Medical Center, Galesburg, IL.
He was born on June 9, 1936 in Hunstville, IL, the son of Scott and Gladys (McGinnis) Farwell. Clyde was raised and educated in Huntsville and Augusta, IL and graduated from Augusta High School in 1954. He served in the United States Air Force for 4 years in England. Clyde later earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Western Illinois University and his Master’s Degree from Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, MO.
He married Betty Beth Van Fleet on December 30, 1958 in Colchester, IL; she survives.
Clyde dedicated his entire career working in education; he taught, coached, and was an administrator, he touched the life of many young people. He helped establish Gibbi’s Hamburgers in Monmouth for all to enjoy. Clyde was an avid golfer and enjoyed his time with the Monmouth High School Golf Society. He loved the St. Louis Cardinals. Most of all, Clyde loved to spend time with his wife Beth, their children, and especially their grandchildren. Clyde and Beth enjoyed traveling around watching all their grandchildren’s activities and sporting events.
Surviving Clyde is his wife, Betty Beth Farwell of Monmouth, IL; three children, Michelle (Glen) Reyburn of Monmouth, IL, Tracy (Eric) Achepohl of Elmhurst, IL, Kassie (Chris) Wollbrink of Monmouth, IL; his grandchildren, Nicole (Tim) Hammond, Scott Haase, Erica Achepohl, Grace Achepohl, Elliott Achepohl, Michael Achepohl, Cody (Michelle) Crouse, Braeden (Trisha) Wollbrink, Jensen Wollbrink; one great granddaughter, Sydney Hammond; one sister-in-law, Lee Farwell of Macomb, IL. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ward Farwell, Joyce (Mary) Farwell; one sister, Ina Corrine Farwell; and one grandson, Marc Achepohl.
A Gathering of Family & Friends will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m., Sunday, November 8, 2020 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL. Cremation rites will be accorded following the visitation. Memorials can be made to the Monmouth-Roseville Education Foundation or the FGA at Gibson Woods. Due to COVID-19 Restrictions all attendees are required to wear a mask and social distance.
