Charles H. “Chuck” Earp,84, of Monmouth, IL formerly of Kirkwood, IL, passed away at 5:43 am, Tuesday, December 7, 2021 peacefully at his home.
Chuck was born February 5, 1937 in Monmouth, IL, the son of George H. and Leona M. (Skidmore) Earp. He was raised and educated in Little York, IL and graduated from Little York High School in 1955.
He married Shirley Peterson on August 23,1958 at the First Christian Church in Monmouth and she survives.
Chuck served in the United States Army and Reserves as a Sergeant in the Military Police stationed in Ft. Huachuca, AZ from August 25, 1960 to August 24, 1966.
Chuck had many careers throughout his lifetime. He worked as an order picker, truck spotter and supervisor at Gambles for 16 years. He then worked for Dohrn Transportation as a dock hand and truck driver. In 1977 he and his wife, along with Robert and Carol Peterson, built and operated Country Fun Bowling Alley and Restaurant in Biggsville, IL, until November 1993. Before retiring in 1999 he worked as a truck driver for IDEAL Readymix in Burlington, IA.
He was a member of the Kirkwood United Methodist Church. He loved antique car shows. Having restored a 1957 Chevrolet (a duplicate of the one he had when they got married), of which he won many trophies showing his car. Chuck and Shirley enjoyed traveling to many car shows near and far. He also enjoyed restoring from the ground up their 1930 Chevrolet.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley Earp of Monmouth; one son, Steven (Janet) Earp of Biggsville, IL; one daughter, Karen (Lane) Fredrickson of Maroa, IL; five grandchildren, Rachel Westfall of Biggsville, IL, Brian Earp of Davenport, IA, Brandon (Savannah) Fredrickson of Seaton, IL, Cole (Fiancé, Megan Finfrock) Fredrickson of Maroa, IL, and Preston Fredrickson of Moroa, IL; two great grandchildren, Kylie and Oliver Westfall of Biggsville, IL; three sisters, Martha (Roger) Cook of Monmouth, , Effie Boock of Little York, and Leona (John) Lenz of Republic, MO; one brother, Robert Earp of Galesburg, IL Several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Larry Earp and two sisters, Parolee (John) Themanson and Mary (Stewart) Bushong; his brother-in-law, William Boock and sister-in-law, Helen Earp.
A Celebration of Chuck’s Life will be from 1:00-3:00 pm, Saturday, December 11, 2021 at McGuire and Davies Funeral Home & Crematory with a light meal being served. Cremation has been accorded. Memorial contributions may be made given to OSF Hospice, Galesburg, Il; Little Cedar Church, Little York, IL; or the Biggsville Fire Department.
