Charles S Seward

Charles S. Seward, 84, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 12:35 a.m., Monday, March 23, 2020 at Monmouth Nursing Home, Monmouth, IL.

He was born on March 30, 1935 in Mason City, IL, the son of Harry & Anna (Hinds) Seward.  He was raised and educated in Mason City, graduating from Mason City High School.  He later attended and graduated from Western Illinois University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.

Charlie served with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Charlie married Betty Ann Stenrose on May 29, 1958 in Pekin, IL; she preceded him in death on April 2, 2013.

Charlie started out student teaching at Roseville High School.  He began his teaching career in Kirkwood and later transferred to Yorkwood Grade School where he taught the remainder of his career, teaching grade school physical education and coaching basketball before retiring in 1992 after 32 years. During the summer months Charlie painted houses in the area.

He was a member of the Monmouth American Legion Post.  His main interest in life was providing for and spending time with his family.

Survivors include is his daughter, Alisa Bycroft of Monmouth, IL; one brother, Merle Lee (Andrea) Seward of Mason City, IL; one sister, Charlene Wanser of McMinnville, TN; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, his brothers, Ralph Seward, Henry Seward and Bill Seward; his sisters, Audrey Crafton and Mary Eichman; sister in law, Vera Seward; nieces, Linda Fenison and Helen Schleder; nephew, Harry Seward.

A private Entombment will take place at Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth, IL. No visitation or services are planned at this time.  Memorials may be given to Western Illinois Animal Rescue or Monmouth Nursing Home and may be left at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL.
