Charles E. Hallam, 88, of Monmouth died at 7:25 P.M. Sunday, September 1, 2013 at OSF Holy Family Medical Center, Monmouth.
He was born Dec. 31, 1924 in Monmouth on the Hallam Family Farm the son of George M. and Anna (Robb) Hallam. He was raised and educated in Warren County, attending grade school at the rural Hickory College, a one room school, Monmouth High School where he graduated in 1942 and he later attended the University of Illinois.
Charles E. Hallam married Martha J. Smith McMaster in Monmouth on February 25, 1950 and she died on July 3rd 2007.
Upon his return from the U of I, Charles worked with his father on the farm for a time where he also raised Angus Cattle with his brother, David Hallam. In 1951 Charles went to work for the Rock Island Argus as a reporter and Farm Editor until he retired in 1988. He also served as Monmouth Township Clerk for several terms.
Charles was a member of the Faith United Presbyterian Church where he served in numerous offices including Elder. He was a lifelong staunch member of the Republican Party, enjoyed gardening on the family farm and was a volunteer with the Hospital Auxiliary for many years.
Survivors include 2 sons, William (Donna) Hallam and Jeffery (Jennifer) McMaster both of Monmouth; 3 grandchildren, Kimberly (Dan Partl) Hallam of Groveland, IL, Kristin (Scott) Wilson of Eureka, IL and Patrick (Michelle) McMaster of CA; 5 great grandchildren; 1 sister in law, Shirley Fullerton of Monmouth; 1 brother in law, Robert Smith of Bushnell, IL several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded death by his parents, wife, and brother.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013 at the Faith United Presbyterian Church, Monmouth. Burial will take place in Monmouth Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday morning at the Faith United Presbyterian Church where the family will be present from 9:30-11:00 A.M. Memorials may be given to the Faith U.P. Church. Arrangements are being handled by McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, 309-734-6008.
