Charles C. Bresnahan

Charles C. Bresnahan, 84, of Monmouth formerly of Sulphur, LA, died at 7:07 am, Wednesday November 8, 2017 at the Marigold Rehabilitation Center, Galesburg, IL.

He was born Oct. 17, 1933 in Monmouth, IL the son of James R. and Mary J. (Gaul) Bresnahan. He was raised and educated in Monmouth graduating from Immaculate Conception School and attending Monmouth High School.

Dad married VaNita J. Schaeffer at Immaculate Conception Church, Monmouth on October 15, 1955, where they were the first mixed-faith marriage held in the Church.

Dad worked with Roger Cook on his dairy route as a teenager. Dad was drafted in 1955 and served 2 years with the United States Navy as a Seaman aboard the USS Bremerton on the west coast. Dad and Mom returned to Monmouth and Dad went to work for the County Highway Department.

Dad worked as a laborer for Gambles for 22 years. He also worked with J. “Red” Braesche digging graves for Bernadine Bowman at Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth from 1963-1983. He later worked for Kim’s Independent Radiator shop in Sulphur, LA for 15 years.

Dad was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Monmouth. He was also a member of the Monmouth Knights of Columbus where he received his 50 member pin, serving as Grand Knight from 1975-1977 and was instrumental in the building of the current K of C Hall.

Survivors include his 4 children, Timothy (Kathy) Bresnahan of Monmouth, Dennis (Pris) Bresnahan of Spanish Fort, AL, Alicia Bresnahan of Springfield, IL and A.J. Bresnahan of Galva, IL; 16 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 arriving in March 2018; his brother, John (Pat) Bresnahan of Monmouth; sister, Rosemary Hufford of Reno, NV; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Hank Bresnahan and twin great grandsons.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be 1:30 pm, Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Monmouth. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Monmouth. Visitation will be Monday, Nov. 20, 2017 from 5:00-7:00 pm at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth with a Rosary Service beginning at 5:00 pm.
