C. Vern Hill

Verne Hill, 90, of Alexis, IL, passed away at 9:40 pm, Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Courtyard Estates, Monmouth, IL.

He was born January 14, 1927 on the family farm near Alexis, IL, the son of Cleo and Edith L. (Earp) Hill. Verne was raised and educated in Alexis and graduated from Alexis High School in 1945.

Verne served in the United States Army as a Corporal.

Verne farmed all of his life in the Alexis area. He enjoyed farming and hunting. Verne was a member of the Norwood Presbyterian Church, Alexis, and served as a Trustee and Elder. He also served many years as a trustee of the Norwood Cemetery. Verne was a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his nephew, Rick (Teresa) Herron of Bettendorf, IA; niece, Dicksy (Dan) Colwell of Abingdon, IL; great nephews, Stephen Ashby, Brad Herron, Drew Tye, Bryan Colwell, Eric Tye, Scott Colwell, several great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Dick Herron, and niece Vicky Herron-Tye.

Memorial Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 13, 2017 at Norwood Presbyterian Church, Alexis. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment with Military Honors will be in Norwood Cemetery. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials can be made to the Norwood Presbyterian Church or Norwood Cemetery. McGuire and Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth is in charge of the arrangements.
