Beverly Mary Johnson

Beverly M. Johnson, 89, of Alexis, IL, died at 5:55 p.m., Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg.

She was born December 28, 1928 in Galesburg, IL, the daughter of Frederick R. and Maybelle (Noonan) VanFleet. She was raised and educated in Alexis, graduating from Alexis High School in 1946. She later attended the Marycrest College in Davenport, IA.

Bev married Robert “Bob” Johnson at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Alexis, IL on October 16, 1948; he preceded her in death on February 18, 2000. She then married Wayne “Guben” Johnson on October 28, 2000 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Alexis, IL; he preceded her in death on July 29, 2016.

Bev was a full time mother and homemaker, and was devoted to her family. She was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Alexis, IL, where she served on the Altar & Rosary Society, and taught Catechism for many years. Bev was a member of the LaMoine Valley Angus Association Ladies Auxiliary, and bridge club. She enjoyed reading, gardening, crocheting, and spending time with her family and friends; she was very much a people person and got along with everyone.

Survivors include her children; Rick (Amandina) Johnson of Galesburg, IL, Robbie (Moses) Anderson of Alexis, IL, Tom (Wendy) Johnson of North Henderson, IL, Terry (Meredith) Johnson of North Henderson, IL, Polly (Don) McGraw of North Henderson, IL. Her grandchildren; Josh (Arin) Johnson of Aurora, IL, Keila (Bill) Schutten of Madison, WI, Jobie (Pete) Thurin of South Bend, IN, Natalie Conway of Cedar Falls, IA, Cyrus (Heather) Anderson of Alexis, Cierra (Steve) Urbanczyk, of New Lenox, IL, Lindsey Anderson of Chicago, IL, Blake Anderson of Alexis, IL, Courtney (Chris) Andel of St. Charles, IL, Ashley Johnson of Alexis, Graham (Victoria) Johnson of Moorehead, KY, Drew (Lauren) Johnson of North Henderson, IL, Dustin French of Alexis, IL, Sydney Orth and Coleman Orth both of North Henderson, IL. Also surviving are 22 great grandchildren, her sisters; Barbara Olin of Alexis and Judy (Jim) Nelson of Wisconsin; sisters in laws, Georgia VanFleet, Wanda VanFleet both of Alexis and Dorothy Johnson and Joyce McCaw both of North Henderson; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands; 2 brothers, Donald VanFleet and Frederick VanFleet, and one son, Patrick Johnson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Alexis, IL. Interment will be in Alexis Cemetery, Alexis, IL. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 16, 2017 at the Alexis Fieldhouse, with a Rosary Service will be at 4:30 p.m. Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Alexis, IL. McGuire and Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth is in charge of arrangements.
