Beverly Kay (Smith) Cox, 72 of Monmouth, IL, ended her battle with cancer at 1:38 pm on Tuesday, July 17, 2018, in her home surrounded by her children.
Beverly was born on August 29, 1945 at Monmouth Hospital in Monmouth, IL, the daughter of Charlie P. and Helen E. (Howard) Smith Pape. She married Cloyd F. “Pete” Cox on August 30, 1963. He preceded her in death on September 23, 2012.
Beverly attended Kirkwood School through 9th Grade and finished her high school years at Monmouth High School, graduating with the Class of 1963. She worked numerous jobs over the years, the longest of which was at the Warren County Courthouse, starting in 1987 and retiring in 2007.
Surviving are two daughters, Cynthia K (and William) Robinson of Milan, IL; Brenda S. (and Matthew) Carver of New Richmond, WI; one son, Kevin C. Cox of Monmouth, IL; a brother, Larry (and Dixie) Smith of Woodhull, IL; three step sisters, Barbara (and Bruce) Wygant of Cambridge, IL; Betty Stuart of Cambridge, IL; Bonnie (and Dean) Talbott of Cambridge, IL; six grandchildren, Blaine P. Robinson, Amanda K. Robinson, Alyssa K. Carver, Haley K. Cox, Andrew J. Cox, Tanner M. Carver; one great granddaughter, Xiamara K. Finnley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and a brother, Phillip M. Smith.
She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary at OSF Holy Family Medical Center where she was a volunteer for a period of time, but had to give it up due to her health. She was a member of the Republican Women’s Club for 15 years. She was also involved with the Warren County Relay for Life. She is of Baptist faith and a 20 year member of Bethel Baptist Church in Galesburg.
She enjoyed her family, her faith, her friends, working in her yard, crocheting, sewing, crafts and painting.
Visitation will be 11:00-1:00 pm on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home in Monmouth. A funeral service will follow the visitation. The Rev. Weston Oxley will officiate. Interment will be at Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth. Memorials may be made to Warren County Relay for Life; Bethel Baptist Church; or Western Illinois Animal Rescue.
