Betty J. Killip, 80, of Oquawka, IL, passed away at 3:54 a.m., Monday, December 6, 2021, at the University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City, IA.
She was born on December 31, 1940, in Dallas City, IL, the daughter of Austin and Vivian (Duncan) Wheatley. Betty was raised and educated in Oquawka, IL and graduated from the G & O High School.
Betty married Melvin B. Chandler in 1958. She later married William Killip on September 14, 1991, in Oquawka, IL; he survives.
Betty owned and operated a flower shop in Oquawka and later the True Value Hardware store with her husband. She then worked at Farm King in Burlington for a time. She loved flowers and gardening. Betty enjoyed going shopping, cooking and baking. She was an avid dog lover. Most of all, she loved to spend time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren.
Surviving Betty is her husband, William Killip of Oquawka, IL; three sons, Kevin Chandler of Oquawka, IL, Mark (Debbie) Chandler of Oquawka, IL, Todd Chandler of Oquawka, IL; her grandchildren, Austin (Leah) Chandler, Amy Chandler, George (Lacey) Chandler, Nathan Killip, Nicole Killip, Kylie Waller, Dalton (Brooke) Chandler, Justin (Tamra) Chandler, Dustin (Ashley) Hager, Freddie Hager; numerous great grandchildren, and one niece, Rita King of Farris, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Howard and Tom Wheatley, and one sister, Katherine Wheatley; and her beloved dog, Sparky.
Graveside Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 11, 2021, at Oquawka Cemetery, Oquawka, IL. No public visitation hours are planned. Memorials can be made to the Oquawka Senior Citizen Center. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL, is in charge of the arrangements.
