Betty J. Flynn

Betty J. Flynn, 91, of Little York, IL died at 10:25 p.m. Monday, January 8, 2016 at Monmouth Nursing Home, Monmouth.

She was born May 11, 1924 in St. Joseph, MO, the daughter of James Joseph and Irene (Craig) Walsh. Betty was raised and educated in St. Joseph, MO.

Betty married Robert C. Flynn on December 23, 1948 in Monmouth. He preceded her in death on March 2, 1996.

Betty worked as a waitress at the Elks Club in Monmouth for a time. She also worked at the Little York Feed Store. Betty also helped many people with their laundry, and she even washed the football uniforms for the Yorkwood football team. She enjoyed crocheting and sewing blankets, doll clothes and pillows for special people, completing two pillows just recently for her great granddaughters. Betty had special memories of dancing, gardening, canning and going to Minnesota on fishing trips with her husband.

Surviving Betty is her granddaughter Kristi (Dan) Green of Smithshire, IL, two great granddaughters, Emma and Abigail Green of Smithshire, former daughter-in-law Sandy (Jim) Gunter of Kirkwood, IL, one son, Buddy R. Deford, and grandson Nathan Deford and his wife and children. Also surviving is her sister-in-law Shirley Walsh of St. Joseph, MO, and special friend Carol Valentin of Little York.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, James Lee Flynn, two brothers, and two sisters.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 12, 2016 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Interment will be in Little York Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Memorials can be made to Little Cedar Church Youth Group or Rozetta Baptist Church.
